Pele, Hawaiian Goddess of Volcanoes
Pele, Hawaiian Goddess of Volcanoes
passion, fire, life
Handmade from sterling silver and 18k gold, the Pele necklace shows the goddess covered in hibiscus flowers, the national flower of her native Hawai'i. Her body is carved from a recycled piano key, and her features delicately scrimshawed by hand. The necklace is reversible - showing the stone on the back - and beaded with natural turquoise. Pele still lives in the beliefs of her people as the goddess of fire and passion; she reminds us that upheavals in life are followed by new beginnings and change. She measures 2" x 0.9". The standard beading length is 19" but can be strung to any length.

Officially licensed by the Mucha Foundation, Pele's design is inspired by the father of Art Nouveau, Alphonse Mucha. As an official Mucha jeweler, 10 percent of all proceeds will go towards the Mucha Museum to preserve the rich legacy of Mucha's stunning art nouveau paintings.
Of all the world's goddesses, Pele is one of the few still living in the belief of her people, who make offerings when volcanic eruptions threaten their towns. She throws molten fountains into the air, governs lava flows, and is the goddess of fire, lightning, dance, and volcanoes. Like a volcano’s lava that creates new land, the goddess Pele reminds us that fiery eruptions and emotional upheavals are followed by new life and change.
