Circe, Goddess of Healing

Circe, Goddess of Healing

$990.00

healing, medicine woman, independence, magic

Handmade from sterling silver and 18k gold, the Circe necklace shows the goddess casting a healing spell over a smoking bowl.  Her face is carved from a recycled piano key, and her features scrimshawed by hand.  The necklace is reversible - showing the stone on the back - and beaded with natural pearls.  Circe was a powerful and independent healer in a time when women were expected to be docile, and she reminds us that we all contain the ability to heal ourselves.  She measures 1.9" x 1.2".

Circe, daughter of the sun-god Helios, was a medicine woman who dwelt on the island of Aegea. She was renown for her knowledge of magic, herbs, folklore, astronomy, weaving, cooking, and healing. Using her own skills and creativity, Circe formed the world around her. In an age when women were expected to be docile and demure, she was a powerful and independent goddess: truly a forerunner to the women of today.
