Selene, Goddess of the Moon
Selene, Goddess of the Moon
goddess of the moon
Handmade from sterling silver and 18k gold, the Selene necklace shows the goddess shining from beneath her golden crown. Her face is carved from mother of pearl, and her features delicately scrimshawed over the abalone. The necklace is reversible - showing the lapis stone on the back - and beaded with lapis lazuli gemstones. Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon, has swirling silver hair forming a crescent moon, and she reminds us that it is only in the darkness we can see stars. She measures 1.25" x 1.4".

The moon is one of the most powerful and ancient symbols in the world: our ancestors measured time by its regular cycle of waxing and waning. The moon represents the shadow side of the sun’s light (that is why the moon shines at night: it is reflecting the light of the sun). Just as the sun shows us the brighter side of life, so the moon reflects the deep and mysterious side within our souls: creating a necessary and sacred balance.
